A loud refrigerator is very annoying. If the refrigerator in your home seems to be a little noisier than normal there are a few simple place that you can look at while attempting to find the cause. There are several fans on a home refrigerator that could create loud sounds. The appliance could also not be balanced too. Or you could have a compressor that is wearing down. If your refrigerator is much louder when the ice maker is operating, the sounds could be a broken a water valve.

There are a few basic components that need to be checked. Like is your refrigerator filled too full? A refrigerator that’s too could cause glass containers and other foods and liquids to clink and clank together. This will create a lot of annoying sounds inside of the refrigerator that isn’t ideal because the refrigerator is cooling and thereby producing a minor vibration.

If you have a refrigerator that has a water dispenser or ice maker but you don’t have the water connected, be positive you turned off the water dispenser and ice maker. There is almost always a button on the dispenser on the refrigerator that can be used to shut off the dispenser. And as far as the ice maker, you simply need to pull up the metal bar inside of it. If the refrigerator was installed near a wall, it might cause the standard operating noise to seem louder. This is because of the echo of the sound of the refrigerator. Pull it out from the kitchen wall and see if that helps. A refrigerator should be about 2 inches away from the back wall to reduce the sound.

If it isn’t any of these basic and common fixes, it’s time to explore the issue further. Most of the time, the refrigerator fans are the cause of a refrigerator that’s loud. There are fan blades that sometimes get dirty and clogged. There are times the fan motors do as well. There’s a condenser fan and an evaporator on the refrigerator too. Often times the refrigerator condenser fan will get a coating of dust on it and needs to be cleaned regularly. If it gets too heavy it can wear out the bearings inside of the refrigerator fan’s motor.

Clean the Fan & Refrigerator Condenser Coils

behind the refrigerator. A lot of the time you will need a wrench or screwdriver to get the back panel off from the refrigerator. Once exposed you’ll notice a fan in there. If it is covered in dust and dirt, get a rag and gently wipe it off. While you’re in there you should look at the coils as well. These are usually near there and will be full of the same grime and dust that the fan is. Cleaning the coils only takes a couple of minutes but it will help the refrigerator run efficiently. This is a very common problem that can cause a refrigerator to run non-stop.

Spin the fan blades. Do they spin freely? If not it means the fan motor bearings are broken. This is an easy fix, as the fan assembly is typically a part that can be ordered and can be replaced by simply disconnecting it. But, before doing this, ensure the refrigerator is unplugged. Do this same process for the evaporator fan in the refrigerator, which is located behind the freezer unit. This isn’t usually the problem, as this fan is protected by being inside the walls of the refrigerator. But, when the noises are coming from the top of the appliance that is the area to look.

If it’s possible it might be the refrigerator compressor, the big, usually gray or black object beneath the refrigerator by the coils, we advise calling F&D Huntington Beach Appliance Repair. That isn’t a repair a homeowner should try.
